Afghanistan, this person was 8 when they moved here and is now ten years old. There was a lot of fighting around them from the Taliban. This person said these people were killing others and were in danger because the dad was working with the American people. On the weekends, they would talk with their parents. They watched people get killed; the cousins told this person that they killed their mom's brother. The cousin also mentioned how the person kicked him in his stomach. The Taliban was regular for them in Afghanistan; it was a sad time to leave because their family was in Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, the person got slapped on the hand by teachers.
Coming to America, this person came with five sisters and two brothers, ranging from three to eighteen years old. Their dad and mom arrived too - all to meet their uncle that lived in Ohio, but they left another aunt and uncle in Afghanistan. They touched on how they were Muslim and wore a Hijab; this person likes to wear them. This person took a plane to America and remembered sleeping on the airplane and being sad and tired. They arrived in Chicago and saw the big buildings; everyone was coming and going, so many people, they did not know where Ohio was. The uncle picked them all up, and they went to his home.
Once in Ohio, it was summer, so there was no school, and they were in first grade. They remember playing with a cousin who lived here. But before the dad called the cousin in Afghanistan and told them they were going to America, who told the storyteller.
