The Taliban, Afghanistan, had to leave because of this. This person said the Taliban was so annoying they could not even sleep at home. They slept with their parents in fear that those people would come into their house. The Taliban broke into their house before; they threw stuff around and took the money. They mentioned how they lived in southern Afghanistan and how the president of Afghanistan is in the Taliban. This person shared a story that one time the Taliban killed the mom's brother after saying they would play games with him; instead, they stabbed him. The Taliban pretends to be good, saying they will buy someone something, but do not. The mom's sister saw him being stabbed and die. They recall walking to their cousin's house one time and watching both sides to ensure no one was following them. They also said how their cousin got captured because he was listening to music; nothing is allowed.

Coming to America, they left behind their dad's brother and their mom's family, but their grandpa came (two months ago), and their dad's brother and cousins came made it out, too. They came with their mom, dad, six sisters, and one brother. This person turned nine their first year here and went into the third grade, but spoke Persian and only knew how to say hi and hello. They recall having to learn English and that it was difficult. They took a plane; this person never wanted to go back, they got the bags and got on the plane. They arrived in Chicago, which was full of grass (little in Afghanistan), there were buildings, cars, people walking, they thought it was better than Afghanistan ("that place sucks"). His dad's brother picked them up in Chicago and took them to Ohio. It was hard with no English, and they were sleepy getting in the car. Once arriving, the cousin joked that they were home and showed him the bathroom. In Afghanistan, you had to wash your car with a pipe. They were excited and went and talked with their cousins when they came to his house. Despite all the challenges, they learned English and saw that there were so many people to play with, they met a friend named Mohamed.
